Loyalty Cards

Market Drayton Town are introducing loyalty cards to reward regular fans for their support.

The cards, which will be available at the opening Unibond League division one south match against Grantham a week tomorrow, will cut £1 off gate admission charges for the rest of the season.

Club chairman Alex Mutch said it would enable their hard core supporters to continue watching football at last season's prices.

"After gaining promotion to the Unibond we knew we would have to increase ticket prices," he said.

"Given the higher grade of football we will be offering at Greenfields, the new entry fee of £6 for adults is, we believe, still very good value.

"But, as we all know, times are tough for everyone and we wanted to find some way of rewarding those who come to watch us week in, week out.

"By producing the card at our home games, they will be able to continue watching us for the same price - and obviously enjoy higher grade football too."

Town officials say there will be a one-off distribution for the cards at the game against Grantham on August 15.

But before plunging into the uncharted waters of the Unibond League, fans have an attractive friendly on offer tomorrow, when Aberystwyth visit Greenfields for the last of Town's friendlies.

Town had a taste of what bigger clubs could bring to Greenfields when Glossop North End visited for a friendly on Saturday.

Last season's beaten FA Vase finalists were backed by a large and merry band of supporters, who helped bring the game alive with a barrage of chants, singing and general good humour.

The normally dependable Gary Anslow earned a special cheer from them when he lofted an unbelievable own goal over fit-again keeper Andy Price early in the game - but both he and they dealt with the banter amicably.

Town's Tom Rogers and Duncan Horler almost succeeded in silencing them by sending Town into a 2-1 interval lead - Rogers with a typically nippy six yard touch and Horler with a fine looping angled header from near the corner of the penalty area.

But Glossop sent on some of their big guns after the break while Town gave a run out to some of their squad players.

It made for an absorbing, entertaining and competitive final 45 minutes but two more goals from Glossop gave them a 3-2 result they just about deserved - despite a spirited last 10 minutes from Town that almost earned a draw.
